PCPA seeks young performers for 'The Sound of Music'

The Pacific Conservatory Theatre (PCPA) is currently seeking young performers to play members of the von Trapp family in the company’s upcoming production of The Sound of Music, which is scheduled to open in April at the Marian Theatre in Santa Maria. Auditions will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon, at PCPA’s rehearsal studios, located in the Columbia Business Center.

Participants should prepare approximately 60 seconds of a song from a musical of their choosing. The song must be memorized. Auditioners are asked to bring sheet music for their song in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.

The theater is seeking to cast young soprano singers to play Louisa, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta, and Gretl von Trapp—characters who range from 6 to 13 years in age.

Performers who are cast must be available for both runs of The Sound of Music—April 23 through May 10 at the Marian Theatre and June 11 through July 5 at the Solvang Festival Theater. PCPA advises that those cast will be required to attend almost all rehearsals and will be asked to miss some school time during the week during matinee performances. Rehearsals begin March 17 for the Santa Maria run and June 2 for the Solvang run.

PCPA’s rehearsal studios are located at 900 E. Stowell Road, Santa Maria. To find out more about the auditions for The Sound of Music, call (805) 928-7731, Ext. 4119, or visit pcpa.org.
