Community Corner: The giving season begins with Thanksgiving food drive

The Food Bank of Santa Barbara County kicked off its annual community Thanksgiving drive on Nov. 3 with a generous donation of 100 frozen turkeys from Stu and Jan Bartleson.

Wells Fargo is sponsoring the food drive this year with a $15,000 one-to-one challenge grant, which will put the Food Bank that much closer to its goal of raising $160,000 to meet holiday needs. Turkey donations will be matched at $15 a piece.

The drive runs through Nov. 26. Drop-offs can be made at the Santa Maria Food Bank facility on 490 W. Foster Rd. from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, extended hours to 5:30 p.m. start Nov. 18. The facility will also be open on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A special Drive-Thru Event will also be held in the Albertsons parking lot at 2320 S. Broadway in Santa Maria on Nov. 14 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Individuals can donate funds electronically by visiting https://secure.qgiv.com/for/?key=fosbc&event=319454. To see updates on the drive or for more info, visit foodbanksbc.org/thanksgiving-drive or call 967-5741.
